Ready to Hire Abroad? You’ll Need a Sponsor License

Since the UK government has launched a new system for immigration that provides an opportunity to skilled workers across all fields of construction, hospitality, medicine, social help, science technology and other professions. The changes go into effect in January 2021. So many companies started the application process for the Sponsor License.

The process for applying for a Sponsor License is not overly complicated, but it does require some paperwork and documentation. However, most businesses should be able to complete the process without too much difficulty.

Once a business has been granted a Sponsor License, they will need to renew it every four years. Although there is no guarantee that the UK will still be part of the EU when the time comes to renew, it is still important to plan ahead and prepare for all eventualities.

Under the new system, there will be no limit on the number of visas available for highly-skilled workers. The government says this will help meet skills shortages in key industries.

There will also be a new route for highly-skilled workers from outside the European Union who have a job offer from a UK employer. These workers will need to earn at least £25,600 a year and have proficient English language skills.

Therefore, employers must first submit an application for a Sponsor License. The process can be lengthy, but it is necessary in order to ensure that the workers are legally allowed to work in the UK. The Sponsor License system is just one way that the UK government regulates immigration.

For sponsorship to be cost-effective, the application fee and visa tax typically cost thousands of pounds. As the UK exited the European Union, these fees applied to employers seeking to lease EU workers under the Points-Based Work Visa System.

When an organization applies for a sponsor license from the Home Office, the Home Office charges either: 536 if it’s a non-profit organization or categorized as a small entity; or 1,476 for large sponsors. And all sponsorships are valid for only four years. The renewal fee is equivalent to the original amount of sponsorship.

A certificate of sponsorship “CoS”, is issued by a sponsor approved by the government to workers who want to do the work for this company. Those workers then use the CoS to apply for the Skilled Worker visa. The royalty for issuing each working certificate of sponsorship is 199.

Official guidelines on UK sponsorship application interprets how sponsorship size and organizational status are decided.

The charge for the visa application and the body is only for the worker herself. When traveling with other family members to the UK is also liable for the visa charge and Immigration Health Surcharge.

The sponsor can either agree to the worker paying the individual’s application and Immigration Health Surcharge fees, or the employee may independently partake in this processing. Note that the sponsor cannot legally charge the individual Immigration Skill Charge. Additional expenses are often paid by the sponsor, as well.
